FIRST BEARING · THE SHORT SUMMARY IN PLAIN WORDS

1. Plain-Language Summary (What You Need to Know First)

If you just want the clear facts in short sentences, here is how RiddleWharf treats your privacy:

No Accounts or Forms

We do not ask for your name, email address, age or phone number. There are no sign-up boxes, comment sections or contact forms on this site.

No Cookies or Tracking

We do not set any cookies or store anything on your phone, tablet or computer. We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or hidden third-party scripts.

Standard Server Logs Only

Your browser has to send your IP address to load any website on the internet. Our web host records that technical request briefly so the site works and stays secure.

Leaving for Game Sites

RiddleWharf is an independent guide. When you click a button to visit a game's official website, you leave our harbour and that publisher's own privacy policy applies.

3. What Data Is Processed, Why, and For How Long

What is processed

We process only the standard technical server logs that a web host automatically keeps when your browser loads a page. Whenever you visit any website on the internet, your device must send its Internet Protocol (IP) address so the server knows where to send the page and images back. You do not have to give us anything else to read or use RiddleWharf.

The technical server log fields recorded when a page or image is requested are: We keep no visitor logs of our own. To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical request data: IP address, time of the request, the page requested, and browser and device type..

Why it is processed & our lawful basis

This technical log data is processed strictly to deliver the website to your browser, keep the server secure against malicious traffic or denial-of-service attacks, and diagnose or fix technical faults.

Our lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR. Our legitimate interests are the reliable delivery of our web pages, protecting the security and integrity of our hosting infrastructure, and troubleshooting server errors. Because the logs are limited to routine technical request data and are never used to identify or profile visitors, these legitimate interests do not override your fundamental rights and freedoms.

Who receives it (Hosting Provider & International Transfers)

We do not sell, rent or share technical logs with advertisers, data brokers or analytics companies. The technical server logs are received and processed solely by our hosting provider acting as our data processor, including any applicable international transfer and its legal safeguard:

Hosting Processor & Transfer Safeguard: Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. The site is delivered from Cloudflare's global network, including data centres outside the UK and Canada; Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension.

How long technical logs are kept (Retention)

Technical server logs are kept only for as long as necessary to maintain security and fix faults, after which they are automatically deleted or overwritten:

Log Retention Period: We keep no server logs. Cloudflare keeps request data only for as long as its privacy policy (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy) sets out for security and network operations.

Riddla Quayle, the clockwork kingfisher surveyor with cobalt plumage, brass sextant-wings and golden compass-calipers.

4. Cookies, Local Storage, Device Settings & Profiling

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), websites must tell you if they store information on your device or read information from it. RiddleWharf is engineered to run completely statelessly in your browser:

  • No cookies: We do not set first-party or third-party cookies of any kind — which is why you do not see an annoying cookie banner when you arrive at the quay.
  • Nothing stored on your device: We do not write data to your browser's localStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB.
  • No analytics or tracking: We do not use audience measurement scripts, tracking pixels, fingerprinting or behavioural monitoring.
  • No third-party content loaded: All fonts, stylesheets, illustrations and video are self-hosted directly on our own domain. Your browser never connects to external font servers, social media widgets or ad networks while browsing RiddleWharf.
  • Automatic device preferences without storage: Our stylesheet automatically respects your device's light or dark theme and your reduced-motion settings (prefers-reduced-motion) using standard CSS media queries, without storing anything on your device.
  • No automated decision-making or profiling: We do not carry out any automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Article 22 of the UK GDPR.

6. Your UK Data Protection Rights & How to Complain

Under the UK GDPR, you have clear legal rights over your personal data. Even though we only process short-lived technical server logs and do not hold user accounts or contact lists, you have the right to request:

Right of Access

You can ask us to confirm whether we are processing your personal data and request a copy of the data we hold about you.

Right to Rectification

You can ask us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.

Right to Erasure

In certain circumstances, you can ask us to delete your personal data where there is no good reason for us to continue processing it.

Right to Restriction

You can ask us to suspend the processing of your personal data in specific situations — for example, while a concern is being investigated.

Right to Object

Because our processing of technical logs relies on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)), you have the right to object to that processing based on your particular situation.

Note on identifying technical logs: Because we do not collect names or email addresses, if you ask to exercise these rights regarding server logs, we may need you to provide the exact IP address and timestamp of your visit so we can check whether a matching log entry still exists within our retention window (We keep no server logs. Cloudflare keeps request data only for as long as its privacy policy (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy) sets out for security and network operations.).

How to complain to us by email (30-Day Acknowledgement)

If you wish to exercise any of the rights above, or if you are unhappy with how we handle your data and want to make a complaint to us, please email [Operator legal name] at [Contact email]. We acknowledge all privacy complaints and rights requests within 30 days and handle them without charge in accordance with UK data protection law.

Your right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

You also have the right to lodge a complaint at any time with the United Kingdom's supervisory authority for data protection, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):

  • Supervisory Authority: Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
  • Website: ico.org.uk
